Saginaw Old Gold’s Extend Winning Streak . 6/11/2011
The Saginaw Gold’s playing in front of a fine crowd at Ojibway pounded out
a 26-
10 win over the Royal Oak Wahoo’s, this past Saturday. Their patience at bat
and
excellent fielding led the way. The play of the day was Toby Larkin and Adam
“Squints”
Mccauley, combining for an out at third. The painful play of the day also belongs
to “Scoops” Larkin as he took a laser shot to his own junk. The venerable Royal
Oak
third baseman also took a lot of abuse, fielding several hard hit Gold’s line
drives,
chuck “Ducky” Mahan, Kevin “Big Wheel” Beemer, and, Matt “Rip” Shaner tossed
the victory. Five Gold’s, were perfect at the plate: John “Booze Hound” Smith
(6 for
6), chad “Shorty” Short 6 for 6 with a double & the game ball), Beemer (5
for 5 with
2 doubles), Nate “Bull Frog” Hall (5 fors), and Shaner (S for 5). John “Lumberjack”
Piersall had 5 RBI’s. Old guy update: Richard ‘Professor” curry went 3 for 4
with a
putout catching. The gold’s played a Township boys team for two innings following
the
game. The kids didn’t play with gloves, and their leftfielder surprised himself
by making
an outfield putout on a fly ball. Saginaw’s next game is against the “Mighty
River Hogs”
of Midland at Ojibway: Thursday Night @ 6:30 PM. The Gold’s hit the road again
for
Tournament at Hartwick Pines this weekend (Saturday & Sunday), games begin
at Noon
up north. The games proceeds will go to raise money for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Diseases).
A Walker Tavern player was diagnosed with ALS just last year. The Gold’s record
now
stands at 3-2 with a Tournament (John clarkson classic) win.
