8/9/2010: Huge Improvement

The Saginaw ‘Old Golds’ were reminiscent of the Ojibway July 4th fireworks on Sunday
as they ripped baseballs to the furthest depths of the island. The ‘Golds’ turned around a
May 31st 6 to 4 loss to the Royal Oaks ‘Wahoos’ into a 29-6 beat down of the same team.
Saginaw had three 7 run innings to improve their season record to 10 & 7. Rick “Slink”
Spitz led the way with 5 hits, a grand slam homerun, 8 RBI’s, and played a flawless 1st
base. Chad “Shorty” Short added 5 hits and 3 putouts in leftfield. Nate “Bull Frog” Hall
pounded out three hits, a grand slam homerun, 6 RBI’s, and four putouts catching (3
straight in one inning) to take home the game ball. Nate “That has been my goal all
season-to take a game ball home with me.” Dennis “Vanilla Gorilla” Konuszewski
blasted a long triple among his 4 hits & 4 RBI’s. “Lumberjack” Piersall (3 RBI’s),
Sonny “off the milk carton” Guerra, “Big Wheel” Beemer and Brandon “Bull Dog” Daig
(3 RBI’s) added 4 hits each. Adam “Squints” McCauley had a monster triple thru the
trees and three hits. Three hits were had by “Brute” Hammond (played an awesome 3rd
base), and Richard “Professor” “Gold’s Dos Equis Man” Curry had 3 hits, a putout, and
RBI, and a run scored (a rare bell ringer). “Ducky” Mahan (2 hits), Beemer, and
Konuszewski combined to pitch the win for hometown team. Ryan “Britches” Dost
added two hits and played great at 1st. NEXT STOP: World Tournament @ Greenfield
Village on August 14th and 15th. NEXT PRACTICE: Lathrup Park @ 7:00 PM on
Thursday evening. Toby “Scoops” Larkin has been seen on a milk carton.
