“First Loss for Golds”
The Bay City Independents handed the Saginaw Old Golds their first Vintage Base Ball loss of the season, 25-18 on Saturday at Bay City’s Carroll Park. The two teams combined for 61 hits in the nine-inning match. Trees down the leftfield and rightfield line came into play. Old Golds manager Harold Campau said. Rules dictate a fielder has to catch a ball hit into the trees before it hits the ground to register an out. Tree shots contributed to seven Independents’ runs, Campau said. Captain Adam McCauley, Nick Hammond and Rick Spitz led the Old Golds with four hits each. Spitz collected five RBIs while Kevin Beemer had three hits and two triples. The Old Golds play the La De Dahs on Sunday, July 13, at Greenfield Village. Fans can join the team on the bus trip for $20, plus the price of admission to Greenfield Village.
